Christ Nullifying Death and Bringing Life and Incorruption to Light, and Our Remembering Jesus Christ, the Seed of David, Raised from the Dead
In 2 Timothy 1:10 Paul tells us that Christ abolished death. This means that Christ made death ineffective through His abolishing the death of the devil and His resurrection, swallowing up death. ... Through His resurrection, death became ineffective; death has lost its power, even its taste. Christ can abolish death because He abolished the devil, the one who held the power of death. By overcoming Satan and abolishing death, the Lord Jesus certainly also defeated Hades and the grave. ... Christ has made this set of troublesome things ineffective through His resurrection. His resurrection proves that He overcame Satan, death, Hades, and the grave. Since the Lord Jesus has already abolished death through His death, He has shed light on life and immortality through the gospel in His resurrection. Life is the divine element, even God Himself, dispensed into our spirits. Immortality is the result of life permeating our bodies, through His Spirit dwelling in us, giving life to our mortal bodies.
In Christ, God is constituted into man, and man is constituted into God. God and man are blended together into one entity, this God-man. This implies that God’s purpose in His economy is to become man, in order to make man become God in life and character (but not in divine nature).
Christ has abolished death, bringing us eternal, indestructible life. This life is given to all believers in Christ, and is the main element of the divine grace given to us. Life is the divine element, even God Himself, dispensed into our spirits. Immortality is the result of life permeating our bodies, through His Spirit dwelling in us, giving life to our mortal bodies.
The more we preach the gospel, the more life and immortality are brought to light. On the one hand, Christ appears with grace; that is, He comes with grace. On the other hand, Christ has already abolished death through His death and resurrection, and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, to fulfill the promise of life, so that believers can become apostles.
